PROCEDURES CONDUCTED
Microtechnique internal decompression has certain significant benefits as compared with the classic spinal decompression that uses screws. This procedure, which is conducted without using any screws and which is described as Microtechnique internal decompression, has shorter surgery time as compared to the procedure that uses screws; it is a slimmer, nicer and safer method. In the internal decompression, tissues are better protected and no external substances are placed into body, which enables patients to return to their normal daily life in a shorter period of time. It also offers shorter hospitalization time and it is one day on average. Patients may start walking in the day of surgery and is discharged from the hospital in the next day.
If the spinal cord tumor is benign, it is usually excreted by a surgical operation. This is a surgical application with quite high ratio of success, and full recovery is usually possible. For malignant tumors, treatment applications are different. If the spinal cord tumor is malignant, it is essential to identify its type. In this way, it could be started to plan the entire treatment applications. For this purpose, a sample is drawn from the tumor and a detailed review is conducted. If any negative effects have started to occur in the general condition of the patient, then treatment procedures can be started directly with surgical applications. Conducting a surgery in the spinal cord area means the use of microsurgical applications because there are so many nerves in this area, and even the smallest problem might create major effects. Therefore, neuromonitoring is conducted in the spinal cord tumor surgeries. This system provides the doctor with guidance prior to the surgery by monitoring any possible damage. Success is critical in the surgical operations conducted against spinal cord tumors. Thus, it is crucial to work with professional surgeons.
Currently, herniated disc surgeries are conducted by using microscope or endoscope. Thanks to these advanced methods, surgeons avoid the majority of surgical complications such as damaging or harming nerves during the surgery. As nerve damages are reduced in surgeries thanks to these methods, surgical problems have significantly decreased in the recent years. Surgery might be required for the patients, who are diagnosed with cervical disc, but who do not get any benefits from non-surgical treatment methods.
The purpose of the cervical disc surgery is to remove the portion of the disc that compresses on the nerve. This is conducted through a procedure called discectomy. Depending upon the herniated disc, surgeon applies an incision on the front or back of the neck to reach out to the spine. The technical decision about conducting the surgery on the front or back of the neck is made by considering a number of factors such as the exact position of the disc herniation, experience and preferences of the surgeon. In the both approaches, the portion of the disc that compresses on the nerve is usually removed with good results. In the frontal approach, a fusion procedure is usually required to be conducted in the same session because the majority of the disc will be removed in order to reach out to the herniated disc.
There are several different treatment applications for brain tumors. The treatment method is determined depending upon the location, size, type of tumor and other personal characteristics of the patient. Treatment methods are surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Removal of benign tumors through surgical methods is an operation with high success ratio. If the entire benign tumor is removed through a surgical operation, the problem will be solved without need for applying any additional treatment. This process might not be so quick for malignant tumors. Following the surgical operation, the malignant tumor might not be fully removed and in this case, the application of radiotherapy or chemotherapy is mandatory.
