Our patient from Bulgaria visited us with the complaints of severe and pulsating pain in the left kidney and groin area, radiating downwards, with colicky characteristics. Our patient’s case was taken over by our Urologist, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat Rifaioglu. After a detailed physical examination and radiological investigations, presence of a kidney stone, lodged in the upper part of the ureter, was identified. Our patient was recommended for Ureteroscopy.
Ureteroscopy is an endoscopic method in which penetration is made through the natural openings of the body, using an optical instrument (ureteroscope), to inspect the ureter and the renal pelvis (calyces and renal pelvis).
During the operation, the stone obstructing our patient’s left kidney was fragmented using Holmium Laser and was completely removed through the RIRS method (Retrograde Intra-Renal Surgery). After one day of postoperative monitoring, our patient was discharged without pain and in good general condition.
We wish our patient a healthy and happy life.
